In "closeUP", you can find out more about the work of artists that exhibit with artWALLAH.

"Krishna's birth" by Anuragi Jha.

This picture shows the scene just after Krishna's birth where the god child is being smuggled out of prison in a basket on the head of his father Vasudeva

Anuragi Jha is one of the leading members of the J.W.D.C, a women's co-operative that has brought together some of the finest artists in the region of Janakpur. Freed from the constraints of traditional mural painting, these women are responsible for a renaissance of the art and culture of their region, and their work is becoming famous far beyond the borders of Nepal.

Although many of the artists at the J.W.D.C. have begun to deal with themes drawn from modern, everyday life, Anuragi Jha has continued to devote herself to reinterpreting the stories and legends of Hinduism with which she grew up. In "Krishna's birth", you will be able to approach Anuragi's world and contact the rich mythological traditions of the Hindu religion..
